If you only had one more day to live—how would you spend it? Who would you have around you? I know I would try to make every moment count; every conversation would be intense—we would not be talking about the weather, or the football game coming up. It would be deep, meaningful dialogues. I would want my wife, children, and closest friends around me—I would want to share my knowledge to help them.

In the book of John, starting in chapter 13, Jesus begins his last day. As I read these chapters, I feel the intensity of His conversations. They go very deep—He is telling the disciples (and us) all that we need to know. He is not wasting any time. The disciples are getting a sense that something big is about to happen, and they are scared.

“But now I am going away to the one who sent me; and none of you seems interested in the purpose of my going; none wonders why. Instead you are only filled with sorrow. But the fact of the matter is that it is best for you that I go away, for if I don’t, the Comforter won’t come. If I do, he will—for I will send him to you.
John 16:5–7

The Comforter is with us. As we go through our day, we need to recognize that He is with us always! Let us show love to those around us; let’s have a deep conversation today with someone we love; let’s share Jesus Christ with others today.

Lord, we thank You for providing the Comforter to us, for knowing that we needed help in this world, so that we would not be stuck in this world. We pray for all those around us, we pray for the courage to speak of You to others, and we pray for the tenacity to carry on in difficult times.

Have a meaningful day.

—Tim
