Sometimes, silence can be a struggle. Especially when we are waiting in prayer and need the Lord to tell us what to do—whether to go or to stay, to fight back or to accept, or for the Lord to tell us that all will be right. Sometimes, we blame ourselves for the silence from the Lord. We tell ourselves that maybe we must not be praying right, or not long enough, or not hard enough. Or maybe—just maybe—the Lord is waiting for the right time (His time) to break the silence.

So the two sisters sent a message to Jesus telling him, “Sir, your good friend is very, very sick.” But when Jesus heard about it he said, “The purpose of his illness is not death, but for the glory of God. I, the Son of God, will receive glory from this situation.” Although Jesus was very fond of Martha, Mary, and Lazarus, he stayed where he was for the next two days and made no move to go to them. Finally, after the two days, he said to his disciples, “Let’s go to Judea.”
John 11:3–7

Surely, because of His fondness for Martha, Mary, and Lazarus, He would answer them and come quickly—but He waited for the Right Time.

So, today, let’s ask the Lord to give us the patience we need to wait for His time to break the silence and the belief we need to trust that while we don’t know His plans or His timing, that His plans will be for our good and not evil. Let’s also rejoice that, ultimately, the situation we find ourselves in—no matter what it is—will result in giving Him glory. It could be today, as Jesus listens to our continual and unified prayers, that He tells His angels, “Let’s go to . . .”

Have a great day.

—Tim
