We start out the day by saying a prayer: “Lord, I’m not going to worry about today. I know you have me in your hands, and the trouble that I’m dealing with, I surrender to you.” Done. We feel good. We control our thoughts—and then we roll out of bed, and within an instant, we are picking up our troubles again. Our heart begins thumping, and our mind is whirling. Sound familiar? Well, that was my morning.

We keep good company. There is a guy named Peter who did the same thing. But he really knew better:

But when he noticed the strong wind, he became frightened, and beginning to sink, he cried out, “Lord, save me!”  Jesus immediately reached out his hand and caught him, saying to him, “You of little faith, why did you doubt?”  When they got into the boat, the wind ceased.
Matthew 14:30–32

Do you remember that scripture? Jesus had already risen from the dead. Peter already saw him. He already knew the Good News—and he still doubted, with Jesus right in front of him!  We must give Peter credit, though. He was the only one to venture out onto the water in complete trust of Jesus. The others didn’t.

Today, let’s pray, “Lord, save me!” and ask the Lord to give us the strength we need today to make it through, to be Trusting in Him and to have a little more faith. He really does have us.

Jesus promised those who would follow him only three things: that they would be absurdly happy, entirely fearless, and always in trouble. He is standing right next to you to catch you when we start to sink. Now that is Good News!

—Tim
